Overview
The input draws 0-120 V with two current ranges, 0-24 A low and 0-240 A high, delivering up to 1500 W of dissipation. The CV span runs 0.1-18 V low and 0.1-120 V high with 1 mV/10 mV resolution, minimum operating voltage is 0.25 V at 24 A or 2.5 V at 240 A, and the 16-bit voltage and current measurement system resolves down to 0.1 mV and 0.1 mA. Transient mode toggles between two load levels at up to 10 kHz in CC mode to exercise a power supply's regulation response.
List mode stores up to seven groups of custom step sequences with 2-84 steps, step widths down to 20 µs, programmable values and slopes, while automatic test mode links up to 100 sequences across modes and load conditions. Remote sensing compensates for lead drops, an analog current monitor BNC feeds an external meter or scope, triggering comes from the front panel, external input, timer or bus, and a built-in battery test mode sets cut-off voltage, capacity level and time. Protection includes OVP/OCP/OPP/OTP plus local and remote reverse voltage (LRV/RRV), a short-circuit test, adjustable CC slew rate, dual thermostatically controlled fans, and both USB and RS232 interfaces (RS232 on the 8514B) speaking SCPI and legacy 8500-series protocol.
