Megger BM5200 Insulation Tester

Overview

The Megger BM5200 is a battery-powered insulation resistance tester designed for high-voltage insulation testing on cables, rotating machinery, transformers, switchgear and industrial installations. DC test voltages of 250 V, 500 V, 1000 V, 2500 V and 5000 V cover a measuring range of 100 kΩ to 1 TΩ, with terminal voltage accuracy of 0 to +10% below 1000 V and 0 to +5% at or above 1000 V. A short-circuit/charge current of 1.4 mA speeds up charging of capacitive test objects.

Three test modes are available in any range: a standard insulation (InS) test, a polarisation index (PI) test that ratios 10-minute to 1-minute resistance, and a variable timed test (t) with a user-settable timer from 1 minute default up to 19 minutes 50 seconds. The instrument automatically discharges capacitive circuits after testing and displays the decaying terminal voltage, with higher voltages indicated above 600 V. A guard terminal shunts surface leakage currents, and the digital display includes an analogue arc for spotting trends. Safety is rated CAT III 600 V with locking HV insulated plugs and terminal shutters.
